About The Lessons

Lesson time should not be used to find music or other materials. It is the student's responsibility to have their music organized and ready when I arrive.

Students must follow all instructions given and behave in a way that enhances musical progress and learning.

Students should not entertain friends, answer doorbells or telephones while a lesson is in session.

In the best interest of everyone involved, an adult needs to be present in the home whenever a lesson is given.

Summer Lessons

Lessons will be offered to anyone who would like to study with me during the summer.

Lessons are scheduled to accommodate your vacation plans and other activities.

Regarding Practicing

In order to make regular progress, I expect at least two hours of practice every week from each student who chooses to study with me. As students progress, practice time needs to increase. Students who are unable to commit to this agreement should seek a different teacher.

Students under the age of eight will need an adult to help them practice.

Parental support will almost always enhance the progress of a student at any age.

It is important to have enough light available wherever practice occurs. I also suggest regular vision and hearing examinations.

These recommendations will assure every student that they are prepared to achieve their full potential.

Missed Lessons & Make Ups

Missed lessons are damaging to a student's progress and also deprive me of a necessary income. Commitment to this activity must be given priority during the scheduled time. I will try to make up missed lessons that can't be avoided.

If I have to miss a lesson, I will try to find an alternative time or else I will give you full credit for the lesson.

If you are going to miss a lesson, please notify me at least 24 hours in advance.

Traveling To Your Home

Due to different conditions that occur from traveling to homes, please allow a 20 minute variance between the scheduled time of a lesson and the time I may arrive. I will notify you if I will be more than 20 minutes late.

I will wait 20 minutes beyond the scheduled time of a lesson. After that, I will leave if you are not there.

Recital & Awards

There will be one recital in the spring. The recital will be held on June 8th at The First Lutheran Church in Montclair. All students are encouraged to participate.

Friends and family members are all invited to attend.

Music is usually memorized but exceptions can be made.

Every student should dress nicely for the recital.

Trophies will be awarded to each student at the recital for serious commitment to their music education throughout the year. Students who do not deserve this trophy should not continue lessons with me.

The recital is optional but the students who participate in it will obtain valuable experience that will greatly enhance their music education.
